What does Magento Cost?

There are currently four different editions of Magento. Each has a different cost associated with it. If you’re unfamiliar with Magento, then you’re going to want to know about the costs associated with the Magento Community Edition.

The Magento Community Edition Costs

Magento is best known for this open source and free version of it’s wonderful platform. You may may download magento to your computer right now at absolutely no cost. You may even install it and use it for the rest of your life without paying anybody, any money for it’s use.

However, there are indirect costs associated with this platform, just like the others. You may find that you need to hire a developer to install magento for you. Magento Community may not have all of the functionality that you require, so you may need to purchase extensions for the platform that provide you with the functionality that you are looking for.

The Magento GO Edition Costs

Magento GO was a hosted and supported version of Magento that has been discontinued, but it did have a monthly cost that was based on your transaction volume.

The Magento Enterprise Edition Costs

Magento Enterprise is the proprietary offering that includes many features which are not available in the other editions. There is a yearly licensing fee that is associated with Magento Enterprise, and rest assured you will not get your hands on a copy without paying a Magento Partner to install it for you.

Magento Licensing can run you $15,000 per year in royalties, as well as $15,000 to $100,000 to install and customize.

The Magento Community 2.0 Costs

Also known as Magento 2.0, this edition has not yet been released for production use. When it is finally released, it will replace the currently free edition, Magento Community.
